A great collection of Renaissance art!

I took this Uffizi Gallery tour and loved every second of it! The small group tour was perfect - intimate and informative. Our tour guide explained the fascinating history of the Medici family and Renaissance art. Seeing Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Leonardo da Vinci’s works up close was incredible. We also had priority access with skip the line tickets, which made the visit stress-free. If you're in Florence, a guided tour of the Uffizi Gallery is a must!

A peaceful tour of the Uffizi Gallery

We took a walking tour and visited the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. I loved every moment I spent in the Gallery, it was rich in art and history, however, the highlight for me was seeing Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo and Leonardo da Vinci’s Annunciation. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the Medici family and Florence’s rich art history, and the small group tour made it easy to engage and ask questions. I’d recommend this Uffizi Gallery Small-Group Tour to anyone visiting Florence.

EXPLORE THE ARTWORKS OF RENAISSANCE ITALY

During your tour of the Uffizi Gallery, you will notice the distinct focus on works from the Renaissance period. There are numerous famous paintings worthy of your attention. You will find Sandro Botticelli’s famous painting "The Birth of Venus", finished in the late 15th century, which depicts the goddess Venus arriving on the shore after her birth. To witness Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings, one only needs to enter Hall 15 in the Uffizi Gallery. The work displayed here is from the period when Leonardo da Vinci was still training as an apprentice under his master Verrocchio. Even in a painting such as "The Baptism of Christ", which was mostly painted by Verrocchio, you will notice Leonardo da Vinci’s touch in the angel on the left of the painting. Works by other Renaissance artists are displayed in dedicated gallery rooms. Some of them are Botticelli, Raphael, and Michelangelo.

SAVE TIME TO MAXIMIZE YOUR EXPERIENCE

After skipping the line with your guide, just follow them to the most notable artworks in the museum. This way you will save time, and you will have opportunities to ask additional questions and gather information you would not normally acquire in a bigger guided tour. Make use of the opportunity and fulfill your curiosity!

LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE MUSEUM

While the art is the main draw to such a museum as the Uffizi Gallery, the history of the museum itself also holds a fascinating story. Dating back to 1560, the Uffizi Gallery is considered one of the oldest public art museums in Europe. Although, it was not meant to be a museum at first as it was commissioned by Cosimo I de’ Medici. As the literal translation says, the Uffizi Gallery was supposed to be just that, a house for judiciary and administrative offices. The Uffizi Gallery has housed the Medici family’s art collection since 1581, and it was officially opened to the public in 1769.

Story of Michelangelo's "Doni Tondo"

Michelangelo was known as a sculptor. He was famous for criticizing painters as they could mask their mistakes with a careful movement of the brush. Sculptors, on the other hand, could not mask their mistakes with a chisel and hammer. Regardless of the comments, he was known to pick up a brush. His most famous painted work is his work on the Sistine Chapel. However, the "Doni Tondo" is his only finished panel painting to survive, and it is currently displayed in the Uffizi Gallery.

If you want to see the famous "Doni Tondo" in person, make sure to book our Uffizi Gallery Small-Group Tour!
